Job Summary
A Mechanical Draughtsman is responsible for preparing detailed mechanical shop drawings, coordination drawings, fabrication drawings, and as-built drawings for HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, piping, and mechanical systems in accordance with approved designs, project specifications, and applicable standards.
The role supports engineering and construction teams by producing accurate technical drawings required for installation, coordination, approvals, fabrication, and project execution.
Typically reports to the Mechanical Engineer, MEP Coordinator, or Technical Manager.
Job Description
The Mechanical Draughtsman prepares, revises, and coordinates mechanical drawings while ensuring compliance with project requirements, engineering standards, and consultant comments.
This role requires strong technical drafting skills, understanding of mechanical systems, construction coordination practices, and proficiency in AutoCAD and related drafting/BIM software.
Core Responsibilities
1. Preparation of Mechanical Drawings
- Prepare mechanical shop drawings and detailed installation drawings
- Produce HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, drainage, and piping layouts
- Prepare sections, elevations, isometric drawings, and detailed drawings
- Develop fabrication and coordination drawings
- Ensure drawings comply with project specifications and approved designs
2. Drawing Coordination & Clash Resolution
- Coordinate mechanical drawings with architectural, structural, and electrical drawings
- Identify and resolve drawing conflicts and coordination issues
- Incorporate consultant and engineer comments into revised drawings
- Support coordination meetings and technical discussions
- Ensure proper routing and spacing of mechanical services
3. As-Built Drawings Preparation
- Update drawings based on actual site execution
- Prepare as-built mechanical drawings for final handover
- Coordinate with site engineers and surveyors for verification
- Ensure all revisions are accurately reflected in final documentation
4. Drafting Documentation Control
- Maintain drawing registers and revision logs
- Ensure proper filing and distribution of drawings
- Track drawing revisions, approvals, and submissions
- Archive superseded drawings according to company procedures
- Ensure latest approved drawings are available to site teams
5. Technical & Quantity Support
- Assist engineers in quantity take-offs from drawings
- Support preparation of technical submittals
- Assist in preparation of material schedules and cutting lists
- Support procurement team with technical drawing references
- Provide drafting support during project execution stages
6. Quality & Standards Compliance
- Ensure drawings comply with engineering and drafting standards
- Follow CAD standards, layering systems, and naming conventions
- Verify dimensions, scales, and technical details before issuance
- Minimize drafting errors and drawing discrepancies
- Ensure compliance with project coordination requirements
7. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with Mechanical Engineers, MEP Coordinators, and site teams
- Attend technical coordination meetings when required
- Communicate technical drafting issues to engineering teams
- Support subcontractors with drawing clarifications
- Coordinate with BIM team for model integration where applicable
Required Skills & Competencies

- Proficiency in AutoCAD and mechanical drafting software
