An Electrical Construction Site Engineer is responsible for supervising and managing on-site electrical works during construction projects. The role ensures electrical installations are executed according to approved drawings, technical specifications, safety regulations, and project timelines.
Typically reports to the Construction Manager or Project Manager and works closely with MEP teams.
Job Description
The Electrical Site Engineer oversees installation of power distribution systems, lighting, cable trays, earthing systems, panels, transformers, and low-current systems. The role ensures quality compliance, supervises subcontractors, supports testing and commissioning, and coordinates with civil and mechanical teams.
This position requires strong technical expertise in electrical systems, field execution capability, and regulatory compliance awareness.
Core Responsibilities
1. Site Supervision
- Supervise electrical installations (power & lighting systems)
- Monitor cable laying and termination works
- Oversee installation of panels, switchgear, and transformers
- Ensure proper earthing and grounding systems
- Supervise low-current systems (CCTV, fire alarm, data)
2. Technical Implementation
- Interpret electrical drawings and single-line diagrams (SLD)
- Review and approve shop drawings
- Ensure installations comply with approved method statements
- Verify cable routing, tray installation, and panel alignment
3. Quality Control
- Conduct inspection before energization
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards
- Check insulation resistance and continuity tests
- Raise and track Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
4. Testing & Commissioning
- Assist in pre-commissioning inspections
- Conduct cable testing (megger tests)
- Support system energization procedures
- Participate in load testing and system validation
5. Progress & Quantity Monitoring
- Prepare daily and weekly progress reports
- Track material consumption
- Assist in quantity verification for billing
- Monitor milestone achievement
6. Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure adherence to electrical safety standards
- Supervise Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Conduct safety toolbox talks
- Prevent electrical hazards and incidents
7. Coordination
- Coordinate with civil and mechanical teams
- Resolve site clashes (BIM coordination if applicable)
- Attend site coordination meetings
- Liaise with consultants and inspectors
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of electrical power systems
- Familiarity with electrical standards (IEC, NEC, local codes)
- Ability to read SLD and panel schedules
- Knowledge of testing and commissioning procedures
- Basic BIM coordination knowledge (advantage)
- Strong troubleshooting capability
- Site leadership and communication skills
